Appreciate all of the shipping process information. While we're in Chicago, I think Portugalia would be our choice as well. So, hearing your experience helps to see how those points have clicked so far.

Hi Steve,

Glad to be of help. 😊

So far, we have been happy with Portugalia. I will definitely do a follow up once all our stuff arrives.

It is exciting to open those boxes when they arrive. We had a lot less than you brought. I regret not bringing my dining chairs, but now have purchased a house that included a lovely solid wood dining set. The only thing I really regret not being able to bring is a beautiful 10x13 rug that a good friend gave us as she headed off to end her life medically due to a terminal condition. It's still in our daughters attic and she can't use it because she has cats. 🙄. Have fun opening your Christmas gifts from yourself!! Enjoy. May you be as happy and grateful here as we are.

Thanks Lori 🥰 - It is indeed going to be exciting to unpack and settle in. Knowing now that we would end up with the larger forty foot container, I may have not gotten rid of so many things, but it really is for the better. Also, when we bought our house, I invested in a 7.5x13.5 rug to fit into our narrow living room. Fortunately, our 12x24 living/dining room will provide plenty of space for the rug and define the living area nicely. So far, we are happy and super grateful to be here. ❤️

I’d love to see two video tours! One before, one after!

Can you share approximately how much it cost to ship your goods?

Two tours? You got it... The after may not happen till early spring as we will have a lot to do to get things set up. We don't must move into a home, it more like an installation rather than just putting things away 😂

I plan to share details about the move including general costs when I do my post move post about our experience with our shippers. But, I will send you a PM in the meantime.

From following your blog I totally get that moving in is so much more than just installing your furniture! I look forward to a full reveal in the spring- I originally started following you from your house blog so I appreciate the thoroughness.

Yes! I second this idea, before and after videos!

Fingers crossed that your container arrives soon! Receiving our crate was a huge relief and I triple thanked past-me for having packed a few items that present-me thought I'd left behind (I also lightly cursed past-me for packing some things that I probably should have left behind).

Curious if your steel shelves can be partially (or wholly) disassembled to ease that long trek up the stairs...

Hi Krishna 😊

It will indeed be a huge relief once our stuff is safe and sound in our apartment. I packed things well, but never intended for the boxes to be transferred four times before arriving at our place. So, hopefully the breakage will be minimal.

As for the steel cabinet... It is a seven foot tall (2.13M) cabinet that is basically a welded steel frame with doors and glass on three sides. I bought it just months before we decided to make the move. I would have left it behind, but it is an unusual piece and I need the height for visual balance in the room. Most display/book cabinets are too short and look odd in a room with high ceilings.

First of all, I’m with Laurie and I hope we can get a before and an after video 😁

Secondly, in Spain they have this lift thing that they use to get large furnishings into and out of apartments- I do think it’s expensive to rent (through your movers), but that might be an option instead of the stairs? Unless you’re on a floor higher than these things can reach, of course. (I think my friends who live on the 17th floor said they could go up to the 14th…so they could not benefit from it themselves)

Thanks for your comment 🥰

You got it... The second video will likely be in early spring once we have settled in (and I have hopefully painted a room or two.

I've heard about the lift. Not sure if it can go to the 14th floor, and, not sure where they would put the truck as we overlook a park and there is only a walkway below us. But certainly something to check into.

Yes, there is always a challenge with moving! We live in the old city center, so moving involves permits and all sorts of shenanigans that we didn’t have to deal with in the US
