The hand knockers are charming indeed. If we ever are in the position of having a front door to the street, we will most definitely have a hand knocker. 😊
As a Chicagoan, I appreciate the bit of Chicago history I didn't
know. Thank you for sharing your observations from your daily strolls. It is one of the things I look forward to when we are there in about a month. Walking around Porto is such the experience.
I lived in Chicago from '99 to '07, the last four years I lived on State and Washington in the old Woolworth building. Chicago will always hold a special place in my heart.
I lived near Chicago (Naperville, Carol Stream, and Roselle) from '99 to '08. Worked downtown in the building next to the Sears tower for a time. Not wonder we're both skeptical of the hot dogs in jars here! We know what a "real" hot dog should be! 🤣
I have always enjoyed slice of life writing from others, but even after more than ten years of writing my own various blog posts, I always think about how I failed English in high school. 😂 (I had to re-take it to get my diploma.)
I’ve thought of moving to Europe with my husband off and on for years. One of our children lived in Barcelona for ten years and we were looking at places there when she moved back to the states.
I love these types of posts - I did a few myself in the past year of being here. I nodded and yelled YES at each of these - especially the hot dogs, which look disturbingly like jars of human specimens I'm sorry but it's just true. So ew. Though in general I love Portuguese food, I don't consider these naked and often grossly *curved* monstrosities a sausage. Nay. It is a hot dog, folks. Double ew. And the chocolate cereal! There are maybe 20 boxes of cereal in our Continente cereal section, fully half are varieties of chocolate. Speaking of chocolate - Lindt is way cheaper here, hear hear!
We finally both got our cards and are looking for a shipper for our containers, which are loaded and ready to go...if you like your shipper, do let me know!
Wonderful news about the cards. Such a huge relief when you have it in hand.
We are so far happy with our shipper, however until our good arrive safe and sound, I am reluctant to share the company publicly. That said, I will send you a private message.
I have also never tried the jarred hot dogs. I bought a jar once, figuring I would at least try. But no, they sat on the shelf until they expired. Couldn't do it.
Great observations....we love the little hand knockers that we made our builder install it on our front door renovation.
Thanks Nancy 🥰

Best of luck with your move.

And now I could really go for a dog from Portillo's!
The hand knockers are my favorite! I love seeing them all over our city.
I love seeing them all over too.... I may just need to follow up with a post on just door knockers. 😉😂
Thank you really appreciate your slice of life writing and keep the photos coming.
Thank you Melinda 🥰

I am glad you appreciate my work. ❤️
Hi Devyn.
I’ve thought of moving to Europe with my husband off and on for years. One of our children lived in Barcelona for ten years and we were looking at places there when she moved back to the states.
So now I live in Porto vicariously through you!
Cheers
Melinda

Thanks Sandra! 🥰
I agree the jars are a bit disturbing at first.
And YES... So many chocolate cereals! I'll keep an eye out for Lindt 😊

Totally understand, and thanks!
I have so many pictures of the tiny hand knockers! The are the Hamd of Fatima, a symbol of protection.
Thank you! I saw these all over San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, but didn't know their significance. I took lots of pictures too. :)
*Hand
That makes total sense given Fatima's importance in Portugals history.

I'm sure at some point I will give in and try them... But only if I can find proper hot dog buns, mustard, and relish.
